I can speak from experience, since I personally own a 2002 Forester with over 138K on it. Ours has been in the family since new, and like this one, has a great service history at the Subaru dealer. However, this one is quite a bit NICER than ours (it does not appear to have had the 10 year "mauling" at the hands of young children, that ours has had!) And that's a good thing, because this Forester appears to have been pampered and garaged. The paint is still in good shape (with a few little scratches and dings here and there as you might expect on an '02--nothing major though.)  The velour interior is about as nice as you'll find on a 10 year old car!

Powered by Subaru's venerable 2.5L horizontally opposed 4 cylinder engine (basically a Japanese water-cooled version of VW's old flat four) this low stress engine design is renowned for its longevity. It's not uncommon to see these engines run well over 300,000 miles with proper care (which this one has certainly had!)  Power is transferred through the "4EAT" 4 speed OD Automatic transmission to all four wheels continuously, shifting torque variably to any wheel that slips. The resulting handling is very confidence inspiring in wet or dry weather.

This example is a local car, and has just had a complete oil & filter change and is ready to roll for the next 93,000 miles. If you think I'm kidding, just ask ANY Subaru owner and you'll get an earful about the incredible longevity and reliability of these cars. EPA rated and 19 city/26 highway, we average about 22 mpg on regular in ours, and as much as 27 on the highway.

This is the perfect car for a new driver or an extra family vehicle. It has good safety ratings and a quality of fit and finish that will amaze you at 10 years old. I don't think these's a better used car value out there in the marketplace. Everyone should own one of these Foresters--hopefully you will see the incredible value and grab this one while it is available!  Our last '02 Forester sold in a matter of a few days.
